Lobbyist Registration Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Any individual, firm, or organization that receives compensation of at least $1,000 in a calendar month, excluding reimbursement for reasonable expenses, for engaging in lobbying. Any individual, firm or organization retained by a County governed entity (defined as entities governed by the Board of Supervisors/Board of Directors) who advocates on behalf of a County governed entity before state or federal bodies, provided the advocate activities are within the scope of work, are excluded from this requirement.

Email the Clerk of the Board at <a href=”mailto:Reception@cob.sbcounty.gov”>Reception@cob.sbcounty.gov</a> with your name, firm name, email, and phone number. You will receive an email notifying you that you have been granted access to the system.

Once you have been added to the online system you will receive an email notifying you to proceed with your registration by accessing the <a href=”https://cob.sbcounty.gov/lobbyist”>Clerk of the Board site</a>. It is your responsibility to enter accurate and truthful information during the registration process, as the Clerk of the Board will not verify submissions for correctness.

The only method to register is electronically.

There is no fee charged for registering, ensuring an accessible process for all.

Renewals are due by January 15 of each year, beginning in 2027. Renewal notification will be sent via email prior to the renewal date. However, it is the responsibility of the lobbyist to ensure their registration is up to date and accurate.

Any registration information that is submitted will be posted on the website and is available for public viewing.

Yes. County Code requires each lobbyist to disclose their full name, business address, telephone number and email address. Each lobbyist is also required to provide the full name, business address, telephone number and email address of each person or entity that has contracted for the services of the lobbyist to lobby a County governed entity on its behalf. Keep in mind this information will be posted on the County website.
